No club in the bag magnifies a mismatched grip more than the driver — the longest lever, the fastest swing, and the least margin for a hand fighting the texture in it. We check grip before anything else, then build the rest of the driver spec around it.
Grip Texture Under Full Swing Speed
A grip that feels fine at half-speed on a showroom floor can slip or over-grip at full driver speed. We put you through sample swings on cord, rubber, and hybrid builds at game speed before touching a demo head, so texture preference is confirmed under the actual load your driver swing produces.
From there we map your delivery: are you swinging up or down on the ball? Is spin axis tilted, sending shots off-line? A driver spec that ignores hand security at speed is starting from an unstable base no matter how well-tuned the loft and shaft turn out to be.
What Actually Changes in a Driver Fitting
Grip Texture & Core
Cord blend, rubber, or hybrid, sized by core diameter and wrap count to your palm width and moisture level — checked before loft or shaft ever enter the conversation.
Loft & Face Angle
Adjustable hosels let us dial loft in half-degree steps. A negative attack angle usually calls for more static loft than the number stamped on the head.
Shaft Weight & Flex
Shaft weight shapes swing timing more than the flex label alone. We test across weight classes and flex profiles for the most repeatable strike.
Head Design & MOI
Moment of inertia determines how forgiving a head is on off-center strikes. Higher-MOI heads resist twisting on mishits; lower-MOI heads suit players shaping shots on demand.
Length
A shorter, better-controlled driver frequently outperforms a longer one on center-strike percentage, which usually beats a few extra yards of theoretical max distance.
Center of Gravity
CG location shapes launch and spin independent of loft. Low-back CG heads generally raise launch while lowering spin for players chasing carry.
What a Grip-First Driver Fitting Can Fix
The Late-Round Slice
Sweaty hands late in a round can slip on a smooth rubber grip, opening the face at impact in a way that mimics a swing flaw. A cord or hybrid build often closes that gap without changing mechanics.
Over-Gripping Tension
A grip that's too small or too slick for your hand tends to get squeezed harder for control, which restricts release and costs clubhead speed. Correct sizing lets hand tension relax.
Ballooning in the Wind
Excess spin sends shots up and back, costing distance and exposing the ball to wind. A lower-spin shaft or head, paired with reduced loft, flattens the flight.
Inconsistent Strike Location
If strikes scatter across the face, a higher-MOI head paired with correct length, lie, and a secure grip can shrink that pattern significantly.
