Every Fitting Starts at the Grip, Not the Head

Most shops measure your swing and skip straight to shaft and loft. We start one step earlier — matching cord, rubber, or hybrid grip texture and core size to your actual hand and the river valley's swing in humidity — because a mismatched grip quietly undoes whatever the rest of the fitting gets right. Once that's locked in, we carry the same read through driver, irons, wedges, and putter.

Grip Match First, Then Every Club Behind It

We open every appointment with a hand-and-texture read, then apply that same standard club by club — nothing leaves the bench until the grip, shaft, and head agree with each other.

Why Grip First

A Loft Chart Can't Fix a Grip That's Fighting Your Hand

When a grip is too slick for a sweaty July round or too tacky for a dry January morning, golfers tend to compensate by gripping harder or looser without realizing it — and that compensation shows up downstream as inconsistent face angle, not as a grip complaint. Fix the texture and hand pressure normalizes on its own.

The River Valley Curve

What Peoria's Humidity Does to a Grip Over a Year

Relative humidity across the Illinois River valley swings hard between a sticky August and a bone -dry February — and grip texture that felt perfect in spring can turn slick or brittle by the next season. This is the same curve we use to time seasonal swap recommendations.

Bar height tracks relative palm-moisture demand by month, not a weather-service reading — it's the internal scale we use to time full-cord versus hybrid recommendations for regular clients.

The Process

From Hand Read to Finished Build in Four Stops

1

Hand & Texture Read

We measure palm width, glove size, and grip pressure under a short swing sample to establish a moisture and texture baseline before touching a demo club.

2

Live Sample Testing

You swing across cord, rubber, and hybrid builds on the actual head you're testing, so texture preference gets confirmed under load, not from a showroom feel.

3

Full Spec Build-Out

Grip texture, core size, shaft, length, and lie/loft get locked together as one spec — we walk through the reasoning for each line before anything goes to the build shop.

4

Bench Build & Verify

Clubs are built in-house and checked against swingweight and grip-diameter tolerance before you pick them up, usually inside a week.

Bench Notes

What Clients Say After a Fitting

★★★★★

I'd been fighting a hook for two seasons and it turned out to be an oversized rubber grip, not my swing. Went to a smaller cord build and the difference was immediate.

★★★★★

Never thought about grip texture changing by season until they walked me through my own humidity chart. Switched to a hybrid build for winter and my hands don't go numb by the back nine.

★★★★★

Full bag rebuild starting from grip diameter instead of shaft flex. Every club finally feels like it belongs to the same set.
